How To Improve Your Business’s Online Visibility In One Day. By Tyler Gallagher, CEO and founder of Regal Assets, an international alternative assets firm with offices in Beverly Hills, Toronto, London and Dubai. getty You might’ve heard about the mythological “SEO in one day” strategy. As a longtime e-commerce entrepreneur, I can tell you it’s no mere myth. There are changes you can make to your company’s website today to improve its visibility and start outranking your competitors. Between my chief marketing officer (CMO) and myself, there’s a lot that we’ve learned over a decade of entrepreneurship when it comes to boosting web traffic and making our websites more visible. In this article, I’ll share some of the tricks of the trade that I’ve picked up over the years as an e-commerce expert. Building An Overnight SEO Campaign The truth is that search engine optimization (SEO) isn’t as difficult as it’s sometimes cracked up to be. Like most industries, it follows the Pareto principle, in which 20 percent of your efforts yield 80 percent of your results. The good news is that you don’t need to hire a professional SEO expert to do this for you. The bad news, however, is that there simply isn’t enough room in this article to cover each element in detail. Nonetheless, my tips listed below can help point you in the right direction when it comes to building a successful (and uncomplicated) SEO campaign.
On-Page Optimization Let’s start with optimizing your website’s on-page elements (i.E., everything that appears in your visitor’s web browser). Your first and most impactful step is to try to rank for a main target keyword that isn’t your company’s name. If you’re a local business, simply ranking for [City Name + Industry] is often an effective strategy. For e-commerce businesses like mine, you need to get more creative (e.G., “best precious metals IRAs”). Often, keywords can be intuited with a little educated guesswork. If you need help coming up with them, I suggestusing the free trial of any of these keyword research tools: • Moz Keyword Explorer • Ahrefs • SEMrush •
KeywordTool.Io Make sure every article and content page has a dedicated keyword, and that these keywords appear in both the title and body text of the content (naturally, too; don’t force them in). Beyond that, you can make smaller yet vital on-page optimizations such as these: • Compress image file sizes (ideally, < 1 MB per image). •
Break content into sections of four paragraphs or fewer. • Avoid run-on paragraphs longer than four visual lines. •
Include hyperlinks to authoritative websites (about four or five per 1,000 words). Off-Page Optimization What SEO pros call “off-page” optimization refers to building hyperlinks that direct back to your content from other websites. Usually, this is achieved by creating awesome content that other web hosts voluntarily link to in order to assist their readers. Although building a rock-solid backlink profile can’t be done in a day, you can still make big improvements.
TikTok, should include a link to your website’s landing page. The same goes for your Google My Business page. Essentially, any social page associated with your business should include a link to your website’s page, and this alone can build you a dozen or more backlinks. Aside from that, I recommend starting a blog section on your website that includes genuinely helpful content for your readers. If your writing is truly top-notch and you share it widely enough, you can pick up backlinks as your content starts to go viral and more outlets promote it. Technical Optimization For the average entrepreneur, technical SEO techniques are a bit overwhelming and out of our depth (speaking from experience here!). If you’re not super tech-savvy and don’t know your way around your website’s backend, you may want to consult a web developer to help you. However, small and immediate changes you can make to improve your website’s technical SEO performance include: • Ensure every page has SSL certification. •
Ensure you’re using a fast web host (i.E., < 2 second browser load time). • Delete any duplicate content on your website’s sitemap. • Enable Google’s AMP HTML to increase content speed on mobile devices. Putting It All Together Mastering SEO isn’t easy, but it’s not too hard to figure out the basics. The good news is that you can make quick and impactful improvements to your website and improve your business’s sales virtually overnight by putting in place the SEO suggestions I’ve outlined above. Implement these on-page, off-page and technical SEO suggestions to see for yourself.
